Missionary Life

Missionary Life
Heart for Two Lands Blog

Hi, my name is Emma Scudder. I’m a twelve-year-old brunette living in the beautiful landscapes of Africa. I am so honored that God chose a little girl from Cookeville, Tennessee to come and live in Africa.

I’m a crafty girl, always looking for something new to do and craft. I also find new ways to create things wither it be house hold decorations or beauty remedies to keep my skin clean and clear. But, most of all, my heart is for God and helping people.

In Proverbs 19:17 it says, “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.” I love that verse. I want to have a heart that reaches out to people and touches their life. I want to see people get saved and turn to God.

My family isn’t just your average family. We’re silly and fun. We cheer each other up. I have a Dad, named Brett who’s 40 (whoop, whoop); a mom, named Bobbie who’s 39 (she’s so gorgeous! ) and a brother, named Ethan, whose 9 and always playing around.

We moved to Kampala, Uganda in August 2012. As a 10-year-old girl, I was kind of confused. (Okay, maybe really confused.) I didn’t know how I was going to make friends or struggle at school. Fortunately, we were able to come for about 3 weeks in March to get a taste of what life was like.

I got to visit my school for a week, which was nice but also kind of scary. Were there going to be any kids I can connect with or are they all going to speak Luganda and talk really fast in their heavy accent? I talked to two girls who helped me.

I also met a girl at a homeschool art class who is still my friend to this day. Sydney has stuck with me through the thick and thin which is only God. I didn’t really know how important friends are until I moved here. There are those friends you just click with, you know? That’s what happened with Sydney and I. I just looked at her and I just said,  “Yep, she’s the one.”

I also made other friends along the way like Analeigh, Alanah, and Abbie. It’s good not to forget the friends you have back in your country or town because you can never have too many friends.

As for sports, I love it. I play as many sports as I can. I have played basketball, soccer, softball, and currently in a season of volleyball. I'm SO thankful God gave me an athletic body.

Uganda and Africa isn't all mud huts and teepees. (I don't even know if people think that either. Haha) I have really enjoyed my time here and can't wait for more years to come!!

God bless y'all!

~Emma
